Axially Grooved Thermal Siphon
Axially grooved thermal siphons or thermo-siphons use a circle of grooves in the interior wall of the heat pipe envelope as the wick efficiently pulls condensate back to the evaporator from the cooler surfaces where working fluid had condensed.
Axially grooved constant conductance thermal siphons (or thermo-siphons) are ideal for satellite thermal management applications. For electronics enclosure cooling, the long-range heat transfer capabilities of these heat pipe solutions are ideal for increasing design flexibility, providing a variety of options for cooling electronic components in various challenging locations.
Extrusion and threading processes can be used to produce grooves in aluminum and copper tubing, the most common grooved tube materials.
These are typically used in applications with radial heat fluxes up to 40 W/cm2.
